Embedded version of Boatlaunch on
your web site
This feature is ideal for any boating websites, including
clubs and associations. The maps and data are displayed on your web site without
our logo or advertisements. All the data is automatically updated on your web
site when its updated on our web site. Its easy to set up and its a free
service.
To set up an embedded version follows these steps.
1. Logon to the web site by clicking on
Logon/Register
at the top right hand side of the map. If you have already registered on the
site, enter your email and password. If you have not already registered on the
site you will need to do so now as a New Member.
2. After you have registered, click on
My Profile
at the top right hand side of the map. From here you can change your password
using the Log on details tab and edit your personal details using the Personal
details tab.
3. Click on the Embedded version tab to set up your
embedded version. From here you will need to click on
- Sign up for Embedded Boatlaunch
You can control three aspects of your embedded version.
Opening Page
Opening Page is the first page that a visitor to your embedded version will see.
The default page is 2503 which is the Boatlaunch home page. You can choose from
any of the thousands of articles, slipways, marinas and other information
including articles that you have posted onto boatlaunch. You must provide the ID
number of the page that you wish to display. To find out the ID number, go to
the boatlaunch home page in a new
window and fetch the page that you're interested in. The ID number will be shown
beneath the left hand side of the map.

In this example, the ID of the page is 77.
Default Map View
The Default Map View is the map that visitors will see when they first visit
your embedded version. You can drag the map around and use the control buttons
at the top right of the map to change the area. If you choose an opening page
that refers to a geographic point, such as a slipway, the map will be centred on
that geographic location.
Pre-Selected Filters
You can specify the layers of information visitors to your website are able to
view and the layers that are displayed to visitors on their first visit to your
website. Select layers in the Enabled column to make this available to your
visitors. It wont necessarily be displayed on the map when they first visit,
they may have to select it from the Prefs tab above the map. Select layers in
the Pre Selected column to have that information displayed on the map when users
first visit the web site.
4. Click on
- Save your configuration changes
and wait for the page to refresh. Then simply copy and paste the text at the top
of the page into your web site to create your embedded version of boatlaunch.
5. To make changes to your embedded version, log on to
the boatlaunch web site and go to the embedded version tab.
Click on
- Edit your embedded configuration
and make any changes you require to the opening page, the default map view or
the filters. Once you have saved the configuration, the changes will
automatically be reflected in your embedded version. You do not need to copy any
new code into your web site.

Value Added Embedded Versions
Take your embedded version of boatlaunch a stage further
with our value added pack.
This allows you to add your own layer such as a list of
good fishing spots for example. Any data you put onto Boatlaunch remains your
data with the advantage that it will achieve a wider distribution and can be
viewed in context with a host of other boating related information. Information
on Boatlaunch is licensed under a Creative Commons License and users are free to
copy, distribute and display the information, provided they give the original
author credit and they do not use the information for commercial purposes and do
not alter, transform, or build upon it.
You control the ways that users interact with your information. We can set it up
so that anyone can edit, amend and add to the information, or it can be set up
so that only you can make changes to the data.
You can build on information that is already on boatlaunch and customise one of
our existing layers. For example, create a subset of slipways that are suitable
for Jetskiers. These slipways can be displayed separately and with their own
icon and you can enable and pre select this data for your embedded version. You
can also add a message at the bottom of the listing including a hyperlink back
to your web site.
